Guest workers. 14 Dec. 2008.

This kind of picture you can always see when you drive from Moscow on Yaroslavskoe highway. Those people are guest workers who stay there evryday with hope to be hired to any kind of work. Most of them are from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and some other countries of former Soviet Union. I think on these days their situation will gert harder. Crisis.

Такую картину можно наблюдатьь при выезде из Москвы по Ярославскому шоссе. Это гастарбайтеры, которые стоят там в надежде быть нанятыми на любую работу. Большинство из них из Таджикистана и Узбекистана, а также из некоторых других стран бывшего Советского Союза. Думаю в эти дни их положение станет ещё тяжелее. Кризис.

Moscow. Kotelnichaskaya Embankment Building.

Kotelnicheskaya Embankment Building is one of seven stalinist skyscrapers laid down in September, 1947 and completed in 1952, designed by Dmitry Chechylin (then Chief Architect of Moscow) and Andrei Rostkovsky. Main tower has 32 levels (including mechanical floors) and is 176 meters tall.
The building also incorporates a 9-storey apartment block facing Moskva River, designed by the same architects in 1938 and completed in 1940. Originally build in stern early stalinist style, with wet stucco wall finishes, it was re-finished in terra cotta panels in line with the main tower and acquired ornate pseudo-Gothic crowns over its 12-storey raised corners and center tower. By the end of World War II, the side wing was converted to multi-family kommunalka housing, in a contrast to the planned elite status of the main tower.

Дом, замыкающий перспективу от Кремля к устью Яузы, строился в 1938—1940, 1948—1952. Центральный объём насчитывает 26 этажей (32 вместе с техническими этажами) и имеет высоту 176 м. К нему примыкает «старый», 9-этажный жилой корпус, выходящий на Москву-реку, спроектированный теми же авторами в 1938 году и завершённый 1940. В здании находятся 700 квартир, магазины, почтовое отделение, кинотеатр «Иллюзион», музей-квартира Г. С. Улановой.

Weather in Moscow. 4 Dec. 2008.

It is unusual warm in here. Today they forcast +7C. It sounds like a temperature record. We've had some snow about 10 days ago but it's all melted now. I wonder if it's a global warming? Some people say so. I think we just getting through such ha period. I believe it will be colder winters in a future. I don't remember seeinig a Christmas Tree (out side) with no snow in Moscow. The weather looks like somewhere in Western Europe.

Стоит необычно тёплая погода. Сегодняшний прогноз +7С. Похоже, что будет устнановлен очередной температурный режим. У нас выпал снег дней 10 назад, но теперь всё растаяло. Ну что, глобальное потепление? Некоторые так думают. Я считаю, что мы просто проходим через более тёплый период. Впереди нас ждут более холодные зимы.

Не припомню, чтобы на улице в Москве стояла ёлка и не было снега. Погода напоминает западноевропейскую.

Night in Rome. This is my last picture.Tomorrow morning we'll fly home. It a very short but nicevisit. I would like to come back to Rome some day. It's a wonderful city.

This guy painted his face and dressed out inall glod colored. I think you may see thos ekind of peopel in many places of where a lot of tourists. I've seen those kind of peopel in London too.

Now it's my turn to pose. As you can tell it was pretty warm at that morning. I took off my coat and was walking without it until the rain startedlater that day.

Those who were in Rome and saw Coliseum would agree with me that it is a special thing. When you think of how old that constructionis and what was going on out there it's hard to comprehend. When you see of how massive that constructing is you think of how it was possible to build at taht time with pretty primitive costruction equipment..

Те. кто бывал в Риме и видел Колизей, наверное согласятся со мной, что это особенное сооружение. Когда я думаю о том насколько стара эта конструкция, и том, что там происходило - всё это трудно переоценить. Когда ты видишь насколько массивно это сооружение, то думаешь: как же это можно было построить при помощи довольно примитвного строительного оборудования..

Which scooter to choose.

As soon as we came to Rome we dropped our luggage in hotel and went to look at Coliseum. This picture I took on a way over there. As you can see scooters are quite popular in Italy. Lena already crossed the street while I was waiting a green signal on a traffic light. She was looking at those scooters when I took a picture of her.

Как только мы приехали в Рим и бросили свой багаж в гостинице, ым отрпавились посмотреть на Колизей. Этот снимок я сделал в то время когда мы шли туда. Как вы видите. скутеры довольно популярны в Италии. Лена уже пересекла улицу, а мне пришлось ждать разрешающего сигнала светофора. Она смотрела на эти скутеры в то время, как я снял её.

The last thing we've done in Venice we went to concert. It took place in a building which initially was built in 9 century and then rebuilt in 16 century. As you can see musicians were dressed like in 18 century. They played The Four Seasons of Vivaldi and some other music. In my opinion they weren't that great musicians but we liked it anyway. I think the atmosphere.

Последнее что мы сделали в Венеции, мы сходили на концерт, который состоялся в здании изначально построенном в 9 веке, а затем перестроенном в 16 веке. Как видно на фотографии музыканты были одеты в стиле 18 века. Они играли Вивальди "Времена года" и что то ещё. Что до меня, то играли неважно, но нам всёравно понравилось. Думаю атмосфера.

Train to Rome. 28 Nov. 2008.

We left Venice and went to Rome by train. We took a slow night train. It didn't look like this one which you can see on the picture. We were surprised that we didn't have any blankets. All we had were just a small pillow and a sheet. The seat weren't that soft. It wasn't that warm either.

Из Венеции в Рим мы добирались на поезде. Это был ночной "медленный" поезд. Нам не дали одеял, а только маленькие подушки и простыни. Сидение не было таким уж мягким и было доволльно прхладно. Так что мы замёрзли и намяли себе бока.

It was a gorgeous day and we were posing and taking pictures of each other. Rialto bridge behind me.

Such heaters they pug in in the evening so the clients would feel comfortartable to seet outside.

Locanda Sturion is the name of our hotel in Venice. It's old building (like all of them) and rooms were located on 4th floor with no elevator. Thanks goodness I am in good shape so it wasn't a problem to carry a suitcase up there.

There is not much trees in Venice, so people use every opportunuty to plant something. Also most of the windows have blinds. В Венеции почти нет деревьев и люди используют каждую возможность посадить какую нибудь зелень. Также на большинстве окон имеются ставни.

Lena is staying on the Square of rome in Venice reading notes of where we should go. This square is a place where people get off thir ground transportation because in Venice you can't drive. There is no cars. Boats only.
